Kristin Wetta and her husband, Luke, reside in Wichita, Kansas. They have one son, Kaleb. Kristin has a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Studies from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has worked for the United States government and in non-profit event planning. In 2005, Kristin chose to complete an apprentice program and pursue her dream of becoming a Cosmetologist. She has been working as a stylist for 10 years and owns her own business within Emily's a Salon in Wichita. Luke works as the Director of Yield Management at Corporate Lodging Consultants. Kristin and Luke have been married for 11 years.
In 2015, Kristin was nominated to participate in a fundraising competition in support of the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation. Having lost three family members to CF she was honored to be invited to become more involved in the local chapter. Kristin raised over $10,000 over an 8 week period to help find a cure for CF which earned her the title of "Wichita's Finest." This experience inspired her platform: "Creating More Tomorrows: Finding a Cure for Cystic Fibrosis". Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits an individual's ability to breathe over time. There are currently 30,000 people in the United States and more than 70,000 people worldwide living with Cystic Fibrosis.
Kristin continues to be involved in her local chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The goal of this organization is to advance the understanding of this little-known disease, to create new treatments and specialized care for their children and to find a cure. As Mrs. Kansas, Kristin looks forward to creating a greater awareness about cystic fibrosis. By sharing her platform she hopes that together we can find a lifelong cure for all people living with this devastating disease.
